Sorry hdl but I don't agree. Companies are looking at TCO and not just the cost of the PC. The original cost of the PC is only 1/3 of the total cost of ownership for any corporations (server & network services being another 1/3 and support & maintenance services being another 1/3). Low-cost PC's lack network management features and have less or no expandability. They're also less consistent in component features (i.e. open 10 of them boxes and they're not all the same inside).
In other words they're a network managers' nightmare. What you save on the cost of the PC you'll pay in additional management cost and maintenance & support cost. This is why major consulting groups such as Gartner, META, etc. highly recommend that their customers stay a mile away from them. It's the old "Pay now or pay later" routine.

There is a lot of 'head in the sand' analysis both in the investment community and among the professionals, but the almost inevitable reality is that lower cost commercial systems will dominate in 12 to 18 months.

I have given some technical reasons for this in my response to Calvin.

But this is not bad news for Dell, in fact it plays right into their current strategy, since as the desktop ASP drops, the number and cost of mid-range serves goes up. Dell has been shifting both product mix and sales strategy in anticipation of this trend, and I expect that they will benefit more than any other vendor (except possibly CPQ).
