>>Also, why would Fuji stop making media for IOM? <<

Because the way the deal works right now, Iomega buys the ATOMM-tech disc media from Fuji (the actual little disc inside). Iomega then puts it into the plastic Zip disc casing, packages it, and sells it back to Fuji as an OEM deal. With Fuji possibly pulling ATOMM media out from under Iomega's feet, Fuji can stop production of Zip discs and at the same time concentrate on making and promoting HiFD 200MB discs as the next floppy-replacement Standard.

Since Fuji is a partner in the HiFD project along with Sony and Teac, they won't have to buy back their own media from the proprieter (Iomega). They can keep a lot more (if not all) of the money made from HiFD disc sales. It all boils down to more $$$ for Fuji if they drop Iomega. And Fuji may have a vested interest in seeing Iomega go under-- it would mean less competition for their own HiFD. Pulling the ATOMM media out from under Iomega would be a very effective means of doing this.

HiFD may soon be the only ATOMM-technology media. And Iomega proved in their own lab results that using non-ATOMM Zip discs ruined Zip drives. Evidently, Fuji expects to sell A LOT of HiFD discs. And they will keep a lot more money to boot.
