Barrick and Dome will produce more than 6 million ounces next year combined. That is equal to the production of the United States in gold. So no, I guess closing one mine does not matter. They are both locked in with huge forward selling contracts. The gold shorts that will continue to buy this gold have to hedge like mad to make any money. I doubt that they will. Somehow I think it all has to collapse. The Koreans have reneged on billions in derivatives. This collapse may continue.
