Wobbly world economy seen facing uphill struggle
canoe.com
Analysts doubt that U.S. rate cuts alone can do the trick. Europe in particular is coming under mounting pressure to do its bit to get
the world economy out of its morass.
"I'm not sure how much more you can achieve by cutting U.S. interest rates," said Sohn of Norwest Corp.
U.S. officials are certainly reluctant to let other key industrial economies off the hook too easily. Appealing for support for
Washington's efforts to end the global turmoil, Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin has repeatedly described the crisis as a test for the
international community.
"There are no magic wands or easy answers and we will have to work our way through this over time," he said in a speech last
week. "But, in my view, we are on the right track."

Zeev: What do the turnips now say about the stock market outlook? Looks to me like a November correction (but decent market internals argue against a severe drop) and then a strong year-end rally.
