Cable Modems Frustrate Some Customers:

Cox is also considering charging frequent users who spend longer hours on
the Internet, and who end up clogging the system by sending reams of
documents, additional fees. What that increase might be still hasn't been
determined, but it's expected to be implemented next year, McElroy said.

I thought that transmitting at those high bandwidth rates was a good thing for the heavy net user and the Cable Co, for one thing downloading large file takes so much less time than 56k or ISDN or whatever. Sounds to me as their systems become clogged with users the reaction is not to spend more money upgrading system capability but to crack down on those heavy users. This is starting to sound like Hughes Direct PC satellite and the industry is just starting to take off. I'm not hearing any of this kind of talk from my local phone co. Who offers DSL and I've been a "heavy" internet user for two years using ISDN and have never had a complaint from my ISP.

Count me out if cable is going to charge me extra, I'll stay with ISDN and/or DSL. I for one hope they reconsider this and provide users with full unlimited access for their money.

OT OT... thoughts on ATT

I find Att corporate direction intriguing. Although you may have expressed your opinion in a more technical view, I was hoping that you might postulate YOUR view of the BEST outline of a business plan for ATT. Although this might be more appropriate for an ATT thread, It seems your view of ATT's future lies in the internet. In simple terms whats your view of ATT's grand sceme? What will ATT look like 20 years from now if it all works out? I assume ATHM will play a role to get there, what will it look like in the end? A division of some other co? Thank you for your time, your views are always valued.

I never said Turner was an MSO, nor was that a qualification you made when you said no one has challenged must-carry rules because the cost isn't worth it. Frankly whether or not a must-carry challenger is an operator or a programmer seems irrelevant. Programmers have as much to gain by the overturning of the rules as the operators. This is an example of very bad public policy that HAS been challenged, to no avail.
