I don't think it is hard for a smaller company to match features with a company like Oracle. They are big and slow. Look at how long it took them to release Oracle 8 (just shy of forever). I think it will be more difficult for Oracle to keep pace with smaller more nimble companies like Informix. In addition Oracle is fixated on Microsoft first and their 2nd rate application offerings second. Their back-end server (Informix's primary focus) comes in third. They are already behind the feature and performance curve. I would not be at all surprised to see that gap widen.

revenue this year will top $700M. You've been paying too much attention to Howard.

Oracle already is technically behind Informix...(I have used both products). The question is that with Oracle's dated technology- will they be able to catch more nimble competitors like Informix? ... Especially as they spend more time and money working on their Applications than their database.

Informix increased R&D headcount by almost 100 in Q3. Good signs.
