' Expect a Change In Y2K Practices

As a year-2000 bill awaits Clinton's signature, the first such class action settles.

The National Law Journal (p. A06)
...

'The measure will resolve one facet of the Y2K computer problem by facilitating the exchange
of information without fear of liability. "Drafting public pronouncements will be dramatically
changed by this new bill," said Charles Kerr, a partner in the New York office of San
Francisco's Morrison & Foerster L.L.P. The legislation insulates a company from liability for
all but intentionally misleading statements about their state of readiness for the change of the
century.

'Although lawyers are still helping clients draft what they put on their Web sites regarding
Y2K, more detailed legal work is now required to be legally prepared for the coming
computer crash, as the focus shifts from software problems to hardware--such as embedded
chips--to the fiduciary responsibilities of the board of directors, said Mr. Kerr.'
