" Linux needs more tools to make it to the corporate desktop"

This is from InfoWorld's article by Maggie Biggs

infoworld.com

A common misconception among commercial software development tool vendors is that Linux developers -- whether corporate or independent -- will not be willing to plunk their dollars down for good application development tools. Based on feedback that I've received from InfoWorld readers, I believe that Linux developers do want tools and will pay for the best products -- supply and demand -- just as with any other platform.

My e-mail during the past few months bears me out. I've heard from a multitude of InfoWorld readers asking about current availability or future plans for commercial Linux application development tools. Each time I meet with a tool vendor I ask whether the company has plans to offer Linux versions of its software.

This is what I hear back: "When enough customers ask for it, we'll do it," or, "we've heard Linux mentioned by quite a few customers and we are considering it."
