Bombardier Receives $165 Million Contract for 60 Vehicles
for the Vancouver Skytrain Extension

SAINT-BRUNO, QUEBEC--Bombardier Transportation was awarded an
order from Rapid Transit Project 2000 Ltd. for the manufacture and
supply of 60 advanced rapid transit MK II vehicles to be used on
the new SkyTrain System in Vancouver servicing Vancouver, Burnaby,
Coquitlam and New Westminster. This order valued at $165 million
Cdn (approximately US$108 million) follows the memorandum of
understanding Bombardier signed with the Province of British
Columbia on June 24, 1998. The portion of the contract relating to
the other elements of the transit system is still under
negotiation at the present time.

The order is for 60 vehicles with options for 60 additional cars.
Should all the options be exercised, the overall value of the
contract would reach $300 million Cdn (approximately US $195
million).

The vehicle is fully automated. It is configured to be coupled as
a married pair. Bombardier's SkyTrain technology has been in
operation in Vancouver since 1986 and has also been implemented in
Detroit (USA), Scarborough (Canada) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
Very recently, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey chose
the same technology for the New York JFK International Airport.

The vehicles will be produced at Bombardier's facilities in
Kingston and in Vancouver where Bombardier will establish a new
Centre for Advanced Transit Systems in the fall of 1999. The
location of the plant will be announced in the next few weeks.
First vehicles are expected to be in operation in the fall of the
year 2000.
