If it's not over my head, it's not over yours. The guy in the article was comparing apples to bushels of apples. For a single transistor, silicon germanium is 50 GHz. For a single transistor, plain silicon is 30 GHz. That is the difference in speed, not 50 GHz compared to 450MHz. It's a difference of 50/30, not 50000/450, 1.6X rather than 100X.
