Buckwheat - Re: " Just for the sake of discussion, how much flexibility does Intel have in DOWNBINNING the XEON 450"

Once packaged in a XEON SLot 2 cartridge, the product is a XEON. That is, it can't be removed and re-packaged as a Pentium II nor as a Celeron.

The speed can be downbinned - 450 MHz to 400 Mhz - and it can be sold for one-way or two-way SMP systems - or 4-way SMP, depending upon market conditions.

Why?

Were you thinking of a XEON for your own use ?

Gateway is selling XEON desktop systems, if you're interested.

Let me know how you like it when you get it.

There was a PB computer with an AMD K6-2 333 in the Business Depot's flyer in Toronto this weekend. Also two other K6-2 products, one at 300 and I believe one at 350, but no Celerons or PIIs that I can recall.
