Reseller, I agree. I think it would be a significant mistake if the 250 did not read the 100s. Compatibility within the line would make the 250 attractive to current Zip owners who might be looking for a second drive. Incompatibility leaves the door much more open for those same folks to consider competing products, or to simply buy another (and I assume less profitable) 100.

I believe Iomega was wise to have waited up until now to introduce the 250. The 100 is currently very well established and the 250 should not add nearly as much customer selection confusion as it would have if it had been released earlier.

I also hope the 250 is much faster than the 100. There are two factors that (IMO) are critical for Zip to continue its market dominance, 1) prices moving lower, and 2) performance increasing. It may be difficult to obtain much more speed improvement with the 100 while trying to reduce prices, so the 250 may provide an acceptable alternative.

Assuming 100 compatibility, an increase in speed, a competitive price, and availability soon, the 250 should do well to lessen the impact of the HiFD when the Sony marketing machine starts crankin' and the press comparisons begin.

Regards - Dale

"Some price points that I would like to see would be Zip 100 drives at $75.00 and Disks at around $7.00... "

How about $ 51.00 & 9.95 shipping for a drive and $ 54 & 3.95 shipping for a 10 pack of disks ? (shopping.com) Imagine what Dell must pay for these in quantity.

Lookup pricewatch.com and follow removable, Iomega.
