Jeff...I understand that Applied is the sector leader. My point is if AMAT and KLAC are still seeing decreasing revenue and earnings...what chance of recovery in the 4th quarter do companies like Lam research or Ultratech Stepper, etc., have for increased earnings (not much in my opinion). I have no opinion on what AMAT's stock price will do over the next few months. As far as the sector going down. Analyst just cut KLAC's earnings estimates in half for the 4th quarter and the outlook was grim at the Dataquest Semiconductor Conference last week in San Diego. Merrill Lynch projects equipment sales to be down 25 to 30% by the end of the year and sees them flat in 1999. At Dataquest, the sector analyst lowered expected equipment revenues for 1999 by another 10% last week. Again, my post was more in reference to the sector, not Applied Materials.
