New Wireless Business Phones are Forecasted to be Used by 77% of All Workers According to New Research From Alexander Resources
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1998--A new research study from Alexander Resources found that 77% of the nation's 132,353,092 workers in over 6,613,218 business establishments will eventually use new wireless business phones.
The new study, "U.S. Wireless Business Telephone Markets: 1998 to 2003", is Alexander Resources' third report on Wireless Business Telephone Systems (WBTS). Containing over 180 charts and tables, it provides the most in-depth examination of this emerging market since the company's first publication in 1990.
The purpose of the report was to identify, evaluate and quantify the wireless communications needs and requirements of the nation's 132,353,092 workers in over 6,613,218 business establishments. These findings along with other data gathered from primary research were used to forecast sales, shipments and installed base for each of the market's 25 segments. The report also examines technology, regulatory, standards, and spectrum trends that influence the growth of this exciting market.
The report determined that the WBTS market, consisting of: Wireless PBX, Wireless Centrex, Wireless Office Service, In-Building Cellular, Wireless Voice LANs, and Unlicensed PCS, represents significant opportunities for PBX, Centrex and Key Telephone system vendors. Additionally, continued growth in dual domain systems and services will generate new subscriber revenues for PCS and Cellular carriers.
The identification, evaluation and quantification of a business' wireless communication requirements were based on an examination of business activities and physical characteristics of 6,613,218 establishments. The physical characteristics evaluated included:
-- Average square feet per worker
-- Average number of workers per establishment
-- Maximum number of workers in an establishment
-- Average square feet per establishment
These characteristics divided establishments into two categories: under 20,000 square feet and over 20,000 square feet. From this division, further analysis determined that 88.2 % of all establishments fell into the first category and the remainder into the second. These findings also served to segment WBTS into 25 different Single Cell/Single User (SC/SU), Single Cell/Multi User (SC/MU) and Multi Cell/Multi User types and forecast segments.
An investigation of the wireless communications needs of 132,353,092 workers in over 500 job categories is also included in the report. This investigation identified and quantified a need for four types of wireless business phones: a wireless deskset/wallset, a private domain mobile phone, a public domain mobile phone and a dual domain mobile phone. It also determined that 77% of all workers are candidates for some type of wireless phone.
The report also contains over 120 forecasts of WBTS sales, shipments and installed base based on: Private Domain Radio Topology, Private Domain Radio Spectrum, Call Control, System Implementation, and Phone Service Domain. Overall, the report showed that sales will increase from $203 million in 1998 to almost $1 billion by 2003. The installed base of phones is expected to grow from 474,000 in 1998 to 4.3 million in 2003. Cellular and PCS carrier revenue from dual and public domain business phone subscribers is expected to increase tenfold by 2003. Subscribers are expected to increase from 150,000 in 1998 to nearly 2 million by 2003.
The U.S. Wireless Business Telephone Markets report is the only dedicated and complete source of published information on all types of wireless business telephone communications and all aspects of the market. This study is a valuable planning tool for any manufacturer or carrier needing to enhance its market position or enter this market.
