and froze in my tracks as it shot past 50, up and down.

Been there, done that.

I don't do the puts, although I probably should. Being optimistic about my porfolio steers me away from them. If I thought that a stock was going down (which I should have about COMS for a while there) I'd just sell it, usually later than I should have.
