Homestake reports US$182.2 mln Q3 loss
SYDNEY, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Gold miner Homestake Mining Co [HSM] said on Tuesday its net loss in the calendar 1998 third quarter rose to US$182.2 million from a loss of US$155.6 million a year ago. The San Francisco-based company, which has a half share in the Super Pit mine at Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, said the latest loss included a US$165.9 million writedown of the carrying value of assets. Excluding the write-downs, Homestake's 1998 third quarter net loss was US$16.3 million, compared with a net loss of US$10.5 million a year earlier.
