I think making up the dividend shortfall is a requirement of their limited partnership agreement. Which brings up an important point to bear in mind, this is a limited partnership not an equity. That means that for US investors the tax accounting will be more complicated. I don't know the impact on Canadian residents. FWIW I have invested in a similar entity SGU. They have held up in price better than NPL.
