Kevin - Re: " To the credit of Intel's management, they've noticed the same trends that apparently everyone but you has noticed. They've responded with the IA-64 initiative, among other things. "

You have got to be JOKING !

Intel started this IA64 initiative FOUR YEARS AGO in 1994 !

Kevin - Re: " just think its ridiculous of you to be touting Intel's performance over the last two years when it really hasn't been all that spectacular at all (insignificant growth, falling margins)."

Intel's performance is excellent if you put it into perspective.

Intel was faced with two Kamikaze Kompetitors in the past 3 years - AMD which sold a product competitive with Intel's Pentium MMX line at a minimum 25% discount to Intel - and Cyrix which dumped non-competitive products on the market but at 50% to 80% BELOW Intel's pricing. Stuff IDT into that equation as well for selling el-cheapo CPUs.

Second, a near-World wide financial collapse which put 40% of the world into steep recessions - Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Brazil, etc.

In the face of this Kamikaze Kompetition and steep global recession, Intel is emerging STRONGER THAN EVER - REVENUES are at an all time high and EARNINGS are approaching ALL TIME HIGHS.

And Intel's Kamikaze Kompetition has had one puny profitable quarter in the past year - split among the THREE - NSM/CYRIX, AMD, and IDTi .
