True, there is a "profit sharing" tied to the employee's performance
plan. Based upon how the employee does against his/her plan, the
employess overall performance rating, their level and the performance
of the business unit they are in, there is a payment in March of
the following year and is somewhere between 5 and 15% of the
employee's pensionable earnings. This becomes earned income not
unearned which is how an exercised option would be declared. Either
way it is money and is a benefit along with stock purchase, 401K, the
regular pension plan and options if you get them. But IBM is retiring
a lot more stock than what is needed for employee purchase or option
exercise. Its most logical use would be for acquisitions which I dont
believe is a dead issue.

dave, then the impact to those employees doesn't seem to leverage eps if the stock goes down. good luck.
