Kemble: A few highlights from my recent trip to Chicago...

The DELL trip EXCEEDED my very high expectations.

I had a chance to talk with a number of DELL account managers and regional sales managers -- they all seemed very sharp and customer oriented. They work in teams to win new accounts and business is VERY good.

I got invited to a VIP reception (with CEOs and CIOs from Chicago companies) before the luncheon. I met a lot of outstanding marketing and sales people from DELL and some interesting execs from other firms but....the real highlight was meeting Michael Dell and watching him in action!! Michael was very genuine and down to earth. He made an effort to talk to everyone in the room. Michael and I talked about the consumer PC market, the DELL business model and you. Michael remembers you well -- says DELL doesn't have a stronger supporter out there than Kemble Matter. <ggg> ...I think I would agree with that!!! I told Michael about how we have such great TRUST in the DELL management team. He smiled and said that is an important element to consider when investing.

I also heard Michael tell the CEO of Sears that he had just spent 10 days in Europe (in cities like London, Paris, Stokholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Bonn, etc...). IMHO, Michael is DELL Computer's greatest ambassador. Michael was meeting with employees, customers, and potential prospects. He also mentioned that DELL buys some components from Nokia and will buy more in the future. The head of Nokia has agreed to get his company to go direct with DELL in a major way -- worldwide (Michael was VERY pleased about this) -- and he should be.

There were over 1400 attending the lunch meeting hosted by the Executive Club of Chicago. Michael sat up on the stage with the board members. I was at an adjacent table with DELL employees and prospective clients. In fact, I sat next to a Brand Manager for DELL's Desktop Division. He was a great guy and shared a lot with me. On everyone's chair in the lunch conference room was a new DELL annual report and a copy of the Harvard Business Review article on Virtual Integration!!! Those were Michael's handouts and he referred to them during his talk.

Michael Dell did a fantastic job as a speaker. He carefully talked about the internet's profound effect on DELL and on the economy. He also answered audience questions in a VERY effective and entertaining way. I'll bet most of the execs in the audience were on the phone with their brokers today...buying more DELL.

Someone asked Michael about high tech stock valuations -- are they sustainable?? He confidently told the audience that DELL will focus on the basics and let the market decide. He also emphasized that there currently was NO COMPARISON to the DELL business model!!

I have to go to a dinner meeting tonight and I'll continue my update later. Lets just say that I now have more confidence in DELL's future than I ever had in the past. The future is VERY bright for DELL shareholders -- in fact I bought more stock today.

DELL is the next DELL
