You make some good points. I just feel that the FCC made a big issue about prior warning in their decision on Advanced. I interpreted the news today as the same kind of warning to MCI/News that if they sat on the slot that it would be forfeited.

Again, News is in no position to launch their satellites and go it alone as a 4th competitor - the market is too mature for that. Also, the DOJ has made it clear that they don't want a News/Primestar deal.

So what does the commission want? That is the core question. If you can figure out their motivation, you'll have your answer.

Perhaps they want to tie everything up in a big basket: have News settle with DISH by turning over the slot so DISH can do local-into-local with must carry provisions and become an effective competitor to the cable operators.

You never know...

Regards,

NOEL

Watch for Primestar securitization of equipment leasing revenues. Primestar could raise between $400 and $600mm with new facility, which will monetize the revenue stream from the equipment rentals. Very common in capital intensive industries who lease equip.

Primestar bid approx. $300mm for 110d. They didn't think it was worth much more. Dish played big role in bidding up the price.

FCC did not want any one company to control more than one full conus slot. How they resolve this one, I don't know. Directv was not allowed to bid on 110d before. They can only show C. Ergen so much favortism before it leads to lawsuits.

Let's here it for the Government.
