Elizabeth,

Here's an interesting post from the CCUR thread:

I'll post some more useless information about a company that has a only a slight amount of importance to the future of CCUR.

Some highlights of last night's SFA conference call:

-Strategy of cable companies on digital roll-out has changed. They plan on a much more agressive timeline and service scope. They have ordered more digital networks to allow for a simultaneous launch of services in multiple markets. This has caused the delay in roll-out from the 3rd to the fourth quarter.

-Commerical launch of at least 6 to 7 digital networks in this current quarter. Networks have been or will be deployed to 76 sites that cover over 15 million subscribers. These are the crown jewels of the MSO's systems.

-MSO's have been working with SFA on agressive roll-out for 1999 so that they can include the capital expenditures in their Jan. 1, 1999 captial budgets.

-MSO's are being secretive on the launch of these digital systems and SFA cannot disclose further infromation until the commercial launch date. MSO's are being very careful in making this roll-out successful.

-SFA has been required to go out into the field with MSO's and run the different applications to friendly homes and prove that it will work on the installed networks. MSO's have demanded demo's on site for VOD, E-mail and web browsing.

-Roll out delays have occured due to some technical integration issues, but primarily because the MSO's have learned about the many features and potential services of the broadband system, they now want these new features to be up and running at launch. Examples are the viewer monitoring for marketing purposes and the ability to lock out a non paying sub without having to remove the box from the home, etc.

-Time Warner is very happy with the system and Austin is ready to roll. SFA has already run demo's on that system.

In summary, no mention was made of CCUR or SEAC in that the focus was on the sale of set tops and the shipment of digital networks. SFA CEO confirmed that the scope and the details of the services to be available is a well kept secret. Most will be surprised in January when they see how agressive in both deployment and advertising the MSO's will be. SFA CEO expressed some frustration that they can't promote their design, lead and technical achievements in broadband due to their customers wanting no PR until commericial launch. Certainly CCUR is in that same position.
