IBM's solution:

An encryption key is stored on the smart card that lets individual, directory and subdirectory files be automatically encrypted and decrypted, Preisser said.

By using the Smart Card Security Kit's secure file transfer function, users can transfer an encrypted file to someone using a unsecured system. To decrypt the file, the recipient only needs to supply the correct password and the file is automatically decrypted.

Available now, the IBM Smart Card Security Kit costs $199.
