Chip,

1.) I saw only _one_ other card-maker's logo in the entire magazine (PVRSG's logo in the Unreal ad). 3Dfx has done something to ensure that it's logo is the only logo on the majority of the software ads.

Yes. It is called a partnership agreement with ERTS and good developer support.

2.) TNT continues to be compared to Banshee instead of Voodoo2-SLI

Good, because for the money, Banshee is a much better deal. And the SLI marketing blitz should take care of the performance conscience players.

3.) The rumors continue that Rampage will be a new generation chip-set that will completely replace both the Voodoo2 and Banshee product lines.

Be still my heart! (the rumor is incorrect; 3Dfx plans a Banshee family of products for OEMs and a V2 family of products for retail. I can't wait to see them just the same).

4.) Creative is persuing a chip-set-neutral advertising/branding strategy while Diamond is not.

Huh? Wadjoyamean?

5.) The _only_ mention of Voodoo2 SLI mode was in the 3Dfx ad.

I wonder if the marketing agreement is part of 3Dfx's SLI deal with the card makers.

More magazine ad info. I just got PCaccelerater in the mail today and the front cover was a neat 3 page fold out from 3DFX/Eidos for "Thief the Dark Project". There were two taglines. The first was "With the Power of 3DFX, Looking Glass Studios and Eidos brought Garret out of the shadows and into the Limelight." The was another tagline inside the pull out that said "If you play the Best Games, Use the Best Hardware." There were screenshots of the game that looked sharp and were in vibrant color. For me at least this was by far the best ad I have seen promoting 3DFX hardware to the gamer. The monkey ad is also on the back cover of the magazine.

This magazine is relatively new and targeted towards the hardcore action gamer, kind of like Boot for PC games.
