real contracts-not hype, an example:
Bell Atlantic Moves Forward to Meet Data Demand

Market-Leading ATM Technology from Ascend Drives Data, Voice and Video Over One
Network

NEW YORK, October 21, 1998 - With the market for data communications expected to at least
double over the next five years, Bell Atlantic is gearing up to meet the explosive requirements of its
local and long distance customers.

The company has selected Ascend Communications, Inc. to supply multiservice Asynchronous
Transfer Mode (ATM) products to combine data, voice and video services over a single network,
making innovative products and services available at affordable prices.
The market for data services in Bell Atlantic's region could top $80-90 billion annually by the year
2003. In expectation of that tremendous growth, the new network will be ready to support services
such as virtual private networks, work-at-home and audio and video streaming over the World Wide
Web. The network also will provide high-quality, high-speed transport services; platform services
such as Internet access and backbone transport, and a complete range of value-added applications,
such as Intranet/Extranets, electronic commerce and video conferencing.

The Bell Atlantic network is based on Ascend's GX 550 "Smart" Core and CBX 500 ATM switches. These platforms, when combined with Ascend's Navis? Core and NavisXtend family of network management products, will enable Bell Atlantic to offer customers a full suite of advanced products and services on a single network, greatly reducing the cost of using separate networks for data, voice and video communications.

Bell Atlantic will deploy GX 550 switches at a series of hub locations in major markets throughout its
region including New York, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Boston. The switches will be
activated as soon as the company receives permission to enter the long distance business.

Jach, my friend, you can spin this any way you want to. If you want to see real deals and real revenue listen to CSCO's conference call next week. Pay attention to the revenue increase, the gross margins, the sheer dominance that this company exudes.

To say that CSCO's releases aren't real deals and that Fore's and ASND are, you're just showing your blatant ABC (Anything But Cisco) attitude.

If you don't like CSCO, do us ALL a favor and post else-where. I'm sure the ASND thread loves it when you blast CSCO there. Go to where you've got a captive audience.

There are too many CSCO longs here that have made a ton of money from CSCO to give a damn what you think.

Cheers,

Peppe

Jach,

The fact is that CISCO already has so much new that to put out a release on every significant deal would be waaay overkill. Instead Cisco chooses to talk about what's new, how they are changing the world by integrating data and voice environments. They have plenty of deals with existing technology or they wouldn't be generating over $10B in annual revenue....it's just not as important for a company like Cisco to demonstrate they're winning a bunch of little deals. They still announce the big ones. If you think the Videotron deal is vaporware then that's your opinion. It's not a well informed one however. Time will tell.

>>>>If the profit margin drops to 20%<<<<

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didnt CSCO report profit margins going up last quarter to 65% (give or take, I dont know/remember the exact number). I am guessing you have a long term time frame for this, or do you actually believe that this will occur for CSCO in Q1???
