ahhaha.....good details on @home network and parrallel internet infrastructure...

now add a few details about @work, @media and a complex billing system to round out the company...don't forget international expansion beyond the USA implementation.

the best that AOL or other ISP's can look for is an option to interconnect to @home as an add on service at additional cost to the consumer if the gov't forces cable companies to provide access..IMO

At the risk of sounding ungrateful, I am very familiar with how ATHM's network is designed, though I appreciate the refresher. What I was asking about was the patent that you have referred to several times, indicating that is a sizable barrier to entry. I wasn't aware of any material patents (I did notice the "proprietary caching and replication technologies" referred to, but I think you'd agree that application is being used by many providers) that were employed by ATHM. Any insight into this is much appreciated.

As for caching, of course it is critical to the success of ATHM. The term "Distributed Storage", or some variation thereof, will overtake "Bandwidth" in popular usage within the next 3 to 5 years. Strangely, FWIW, I am an ATHM customer, and one of my complaints is that they do not appear to be caching nearly as much content as I had expected. This may be unique to my system, and is hopefully temporary.
