''DF1 will continue to be operated indefinitely and without reservations,'' Gottfried Zmeck said.

Zmeck said DF1 currently had 200,000 subscribers and aimed to boost that to 250,000 by the end of the year. He added that the company expected subscriptions to double next year.

The Kirch Group and media giant Bertelsmann had attempted to merge their jointly owned pay-television service Premiere and DF1 this year but the plans were rejected by the European Commission in May.

Kirch had vowed to ditch DF1 if Brussels defeated the bid, but has since reaffirmed its commitment to the channel and gained about 150,000 subscribers this year, Zmeck said.

Comcast Corporation is to be the majority shareholder and operating partner of TeleSource Corporation, headquartered in Brussels. Telesource is being formed to acquirie broadband wireless telecommunications licenses in major cities throughout Europe.
It will provide wireless voice, data and video communications services to small and medium-sized businesses, focusing primarily on high-speed, Internet access and broadband business data communications.
TeleSource hopes to be able to serve an estimated 50 million points of presence over the next three to four years. It has a temporary pilot licence in the Netherlands for the operation of a broadband wireless network in Amsterdam. It is anticipated that service will commence early next year. In addition, TeleSource has applications for a similar network in Germany which it expects to have awarded later this year.
