P&V, I believe you're right.

Some interests in Detroit must have got a notion that maybe the GLB was considering a location in Detroit. I really don't know what the Band intends to do, but everything I have heard convinces me that the location will not be in Detroit. Anyone who has been following all the politics around the Detroit casinos would have to believe that the Band would be a few bricks short of a load to even consider getting involved in that scene.

The fact that the comments from the Detroit lawyer were resolved without any further discussion or response leads me to believe that the City of Detroit simply wanted to be satisfied that the GLB was not going to compete with the Detroit casinos; and once they were satisfied about that they let it go.

There are several Tribal casinos in Michigan. None of them represent a competitive threat to the Detroit casinos. In fact, if the Las Vegas and Atlantic City models show anything, it's that the more casinos there are in an area, the more they are all utilized. The population of the area, and visitors, become accustomed to another form of recreation. As I understand it, the reason for the big push for casinos in Detroit is because the Windsor casino has been so successful. A population of casino users has been created in Detroit, and now they want their own.

It's puzzling to me that the City of Detroit even bothered to make a comment. Perhaps they just wanted to cover their bases. In any case, the City doesn't have to worry. The GLB has lots of good locations to choose from without messing with Detroit.
