Two -
I was surprised to see Dell on this list. This announcement is one of two I was hinting about on Sunday night - the other should come today from Sun or maybe Intel / Sun.

This deal confirms the shift of Intel towards an enterprise java / thin client model and increasingly distances them from MSFT. It gives 'enterprise halo' to SCO and gives IBM a 32 bit UNIX play. I expect the next moves here to be announcements between IBM and Sun around an end to end UNIX model, java strategy, and some sense of how they expect the UNIX market to play out.

Dell has always been closer to Intel than to MSFT, but this is a pretty strong statement. I would imagine that Dell got something from Intel for showing up at the party, probably assistance in Intel's 'appliance server' initiatives.

Dell has also warmed up to Novell recently. I think this signals the beginning of a new alliance strategy for Dell, as they move out a little from the 'draft WinTel' program and into a broader base. A very interesting development in any event.
