Oracle Gains Balanced Scorecard Functionality With the Acquisition Of Graphical Information, Inc.

October 27, 1998 08:03 AM

HONOLULU, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Oracle(R) Applications User Group (OAUG) Conference, Oracle Corp. ORCL today announced the acquisition of Graphical Information, Inc., a Miami, FL., based software and consulting services company, specializing in Balanced Scorecard implementations. As part of the agreement, Oracle has hired the company's founder, Santiago Becerra, along with the product development and consultant teams. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Oracle does not expect to take any charges resulting from the acquisition.

Graphical Information, Inc.'s product is a successful balanced scorecard solution that incorporates years of practical experience and implementation. It will be renamed Oracle(R) Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and is now available as part of Oracle Applications, Oracle's suite of more than 45 business applications for the enterprise.

Balanced Scorecard is a proven methodology that translates a company's vision and strategy into a balanced set of coherent internal and external key performance indicators (KPIs). It enables senior executives to articulate their enterprise's strategic goals, communicate these goals to the organization, and help align individual, organizational, and cross-departmental initiatives. KPIs provide perspective on a business's operations in four fundamental categories of performance, including financial results, customer relationships, internal business processes, and organizational learning. Businesses implementing Oracle Balanced Scorecard can benchmark their organizational effectiveness in these categories using industry-specific libraries of best-practice KPIs that are updated regularly.

"The combination of our product and balanced scorecard expertise with Oracle's resources, support infrastructure and distribution channels will enable us to position Oracle Balanced Scorecard as the leader in this growing market," said Santiago Becerra, President and CEO of Graphical Information, Inc.

"This product has helped me communicate our business strategy and focus the executive team on the most critical issues required to implement it successfully," said Bruce Milligan, President and CEO of Republic Insurance, which has implemented the Balanced Scorecard solution.

"This acquisition will further fulfill Oracle's mission to help companies focus on improving decision making through better information. Oracle Balanced Scorecard gives executive management the tools needed to successfully communicate and implement their business strategy," said John Wookey, Oracle's vice president, Financial Applications Products.

meDroogies and Jesus, fair enough, lets see if Oracle can get their apps numbers up next qtr. My sense is the I2 partnership is helping Oracle a great deal.

But on another matter which means a great deal to Oracle, what is your take on the msft/DOJ situation. Is there any outcome which could benefit Oracle short term or is it too late for Oracle to see any immediate benefits? Im talking about a situation where the DOJ wins something against msft obviously.

This is interesting because it is only the potential of msft gaining mkt share against Oracle that has depressed Oracle stock price. If that looming threat is removed or damaged in some way, different story.
