This is all so sweet. Congratulations everyone. Looks like what we do now is to watch as OEMS start signing on. HP will enhance Vectra. NEC to ship in 1999. (Interesting that IBM is nowhere to be seen here.) And hilarious that there's already an Embassy FAQ page -- that brings new meaning to the word "frequently." Anyway, here we go!

The text of the NEXTSTEP link is worth posting here:

Today, with the launch of EMBASSY, complemented by a strong coalition of participants and support, Wave Systems has achieved a major step in the execution of its strategic business plan. Earlier this year, Wave announced a critical mass of software vendors offering their leading educational and entertainment titles for consumer distribution utilizing the WaveMeter technology. Wave has leveraged this new content distribution service to drive the implementation of Wave's technology by PC OEMs, which has resulted in the announcement this morning. For the first time Wave has brought together the ability for the digital content community to offer to end consumers the secure rental of software and secure network transactions.

As the PC manufacturers came to better understand Wave's technology and business model there was considerable interest in broadening two key aspects of Wave's platform: security and programmability. By enabling general purpose programmability and security capabilities in Wave's platform, significant new opportunities have been opened for both Wave Systems and the PC vendors.

Wave has invested significant time and energy in the expansion of the Wave technology. The announcements today outline the details of that work and set the stage for the next few months. We have seen very strong interest from the OEM manufacturers in this technology and expect to continue to expand the companies supporting Wave's solutions in the market.

The WaveMeter technology has been the foundation for this "Next Step" and while metering continues as a central thrust, Wave is introducing EMBASSY (EMBedded Application Security System). EMBASSY is an implementation of a trusted client and is explained in detail in today's announcements. The EMBASSY E-Commerce System includes the full functionality, compatibility and business models of the WaveMeter.
