Re: IBM-TPII "alliance"

Shades of CSHK and their supposed MSFT partnership. This ruse seems to work every time... for about a day or so.

To become an IBM of MSFT "partner" you need just fill out a form. These guys beg you to join. Even worse, in this case, TPII has to pay IBM for the privilege:

Software Vendor Marketing Programs

IBM's Fee Based Programs consist of agreements between IBM and vendors who are providing non-IBM application software, hardware and services to help satisfy the requirements of IBM's customers. IBM and the vendor contractually agree on a fee, which is a percentage of the selling price of the offering, payable to IBM for agreed to marketing responsibilities IBM performs to make the sale. These offerings include hardware, software and services business relationships that are national in scope. These are non-exclusive marketing arrangements between IBM and the vendor. The vendor is responsible for licensing, terms and conditions, and pricing. The vendor may also be responsible for distribution, billing and accounts receivable, installation, education, customer support and maintenance. IBM marketing responsibilities may include presenting the products offered through this program as the solution to the customer if an IBM solution is not appropriate, the identification and registration of qualified prospects with the vendor, participating in joint calls with the vendor and obtaining, or assisting in obtaining, the customer's signature on the vendor's license or product agreement.

Essentially what IBM does is put your name in a huge directory. If IBM doesn't already have their own product or service to sell a prospect, they'll recommend you choose a name from that book:

=====
The description in the IBM Software Partner Directory are based upon information obtained from the partner, and are provided without independent evaluation or validation by IBM. IBM therefore cannot ensure the accuracy of statements as to the functions, quality or performance of the partner's offering and makes no warranties expressed or implied, concerning the offering. You should contact the partner for current information, including prices, terms and conditions.

The important thing, IMO, is that any company who creates solutions using either MSFT or IBM technology is foolish to not be part of their respective marketing programs!
