Three-Year, Multi-Million Dollar Contract Utilizes Compaq Capital's Leasing Program for Aggressive Pricing and Refresh Options
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1998-- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) announced today a three-year agreement under which New York Life Insurance Company will standardize on Compaq's personal computer products while utilizing the services of CompuCom Systems, Inc.
Through this multi-million dollar contract, all New York Life employees will be outfitted with Compaq's Armada notebook PCs or Deskpro(TM) EN desktops and ProLiant(TM) servers. All Compaq products will be available through Compaq's leasing arm, Compaq Capital, and CompuCom will manage procurement services. In addition, CompuCom will provide Web-based tool ordering for hardware and software and services such as warranty administration.
''After evaluating our options, it was clear that Compaq provided the best possible pricing scenario available,'' said Tom Shea, vice president of New York Life's Agency Department. ''Compaq Capital provided us with highly competitive leasing rates and an attractive refresh program that provides us with protection against technology obsolescence, allowing us to update our hardware as our technology needs change. We are also pleased that Compaq Capital will be extending favorable lease terms to New York Life's agents.''
New York Life, a Fortune 100 company, is one of the largest corporations to use Compaq Capital for product leasing and replacement. Compaq Capital Corporation, founded in 1997 and based in Woodbridge, N.J., was formed for the distinct purpose of providing all-in-one Compaq product leasing and financial asset management services.

''This important corporate win also reinforces our belief that we must continue to provide our customers with a variety of methods for acquiring products.''
New York Life's employees and agents will also benefit from this contract. Through an employee/agent incentive program, all Compaq products (including the Presario consumer line) will be made available for personal purchase or lease at attractive prices via CompuCom's Web-based tool ordering site.
''CompuCom prides itself on being a flexible technology partner for Compaq.
