Globe says recent Johnson Matthey development and supply deal boosts stock Ballard Power Systems Inc BLD Shares issued 23,083,665 Oct 27 close $40.35 Wed 28 Oct 98 In the News The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998 edition that Ballard Power shares moved up $3.75 to $40.35 on the TSE yesterday after the company announced a multiyear development and supply agreement with Johnson Matthey PLC. The Globe's Market Movers column reports that Ballard is expected to be a major supplier of catalysts for Ballard fuel cells. An analyst for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter heralded the agreement as one of several steps moving Ballard cells close to commercialization. The analyst says it's positive inasmuch as Johnson Matthey is very big in the world of platinum, one of the major materials Ballard needs. Yesterday's rally brought Ballard shares back to levels not seen since mid-July, but still leaves them well below the $62.67 peak of March.
