Peter,

From a purely technical perspective, not incorporating the news from Brazil - if the DOW significantly drops(50 dow pts) below yesterdays lows at 8408(8358), then the DOW could head down more. If 8358 holds, then this is still a short buying situation.

Before the news came out, I was saying that the DOW would move up towards the 8600-8650 range the do a mini-dip, with the NAZ also dipping. Could it be possible, that what I thought would happen at the end of this week, just took place??

For the DOW - it was 120 points off todays highs, and the NAZ about 20 points off its highs.

Maybe someone just wanted to get into the market at a cheaper entry point. It seems incongruous to me that when a country is hiking ST interest rates because it is suffering continual outflows from its equity and investment markets that it would even consider devaluing. I also don't see why the IMF would mandate a devaluation - they want stability and devaluation sends the wrong messages. It makes no economic sense when they are trying to buy time. JMHO but this is a buying opportunity as when it isn't announced I expect the market will react positively
