According to 3Com, the system "allows for the delivery of multimedia information and entertainment at speeds up to 100 times faster than conventional analog modems." It will also support such digital services such as Internet telephony and videoconferencing, says the company. The modular architecture-based system is made up of hardware and software with upstream and downstream access cards being decoupled. It reportedly has the capability to support two-way cable-return and one-way telco-return. " The 3Com Cable Access system is set to be deployed by Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI). It is already being used by a number of companies, such as FiberTel-TCI2 in Argentina, Northern Cable in Canada, and ISP Channel and BlazeNet in the US. 3Com Total Control CMTS equipment is available now. A complete two-way CMTS single downstream/dual upstream system costs about 31,515 British pounds. It includes the Total Control chassis, upstream and downstream card sets, a network management card and Cable Access Router and network management software.
