Cisco Systems & HP Team On New Comms Business Model November 2, 1998 MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., Newsbytes via NewsEdge Corporation : A new communications business modelhas been announced by Cisco Systems Inc. [NASDAQ:CSCO] and Hewlett-Packard Co. [NYSE:HWP]. The new model involves an open Internet platform for combined data, voice and video services, and is aimed at service providers. According to the companies, the alliance and business model "is expected to change the way telecommunications is delivered and to accelerate the introduction of new-world services such as Internet telephony, audio e-mail, and a new type of Internet shopping that offers interactive voice and data service." The two companies say they are offering a jointly developed "solution " for integrating service offerings across the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and voice over packet network (VoPN). The new OpenCall Multiservice Controller platform combines the HP OpenCall open intelligent network (IN) service platform, with Cisco IOS technologies. The companies have also announced the HP and Cisco Internet Usage Program, which is built around the Internet Usage Platform, announced in April. The program reportedly includes: ongoing, joint technology enhancements; the HP and Cisco Partner Program; and planned competency centers. Reported by Newsbytes News Network, newsbytes.com .
