OT For what it's worth, here is another price update on finding Dragon Naturally Speaking. Or other online software searches.

jango.excite.com

I had already ordered Dragon from Beyond.com agreeing to pay 157.95, but as you can see from this link there are cheaper prices available. So, I called Beyond and asked if they match prices. Yes, but had to give a link with a product description. It was a lot to say this address over the phone, so I sent the link while talking to the man. It was instantly on his computer and he confirmed the product was the same. Now, I will pay 146.95 which is a great price since Beyond.com pays $142 wholesale. This is a great savings over Compusa.

Second, I ordered a new Wacom drawing tablet from another online vendor using price watch. Again, the price difference from the local Compusa is extreme. I'm getting a 9x12 tablet with an additional styling tool versus Compusa's 6x8 tablet with no 4D mouse. The price from Compusa is $369 plus tax for $400 against the online sale of $373 plus $11 shipping and no sales tax.
I'm buying a much higher end tablet. The same tablet comparison would show minimum price difference of $150 for online vs Compusa. Okay, many will say Compusa is expensive, but there aren't so many choices.

I guess you have to go to Compusa to see what's available, but buy online.

This goes on to the future of using web based "agents" to shop find the best prices for everything. In the near future, I'll load a buying criteria and it will go out to the web and find the best price based on all concerns including tax, shipping, and availablity. It will probably even make negotiations with the sell side agent program. My purchases will be for just about anything from computer parts to vacation packages.

Now, I see suppliers willing to sell software for 3 or 4% over wholesale. In the future, profits are going to be hard to find. People who do not buy online will be at a great disadvantage. Then, look at geographic issues where people in France might be use to paying even greater premiums than the competitive environment of Silicon Valley.

Regards,

Mark

I'm really impressed with the mechanism of it all.
