TD - I agree 100% about the basket of stocks you'll pick outperforming ERP/backoffice.

That is a no-brainer.

The crux of my argument isn't that they'll underperform ERP or that SEBL is not as worthy as some competitor at all.

I believe SEBL is getting over-hyped and will underperform expectations over the next 16 months.

Your post is typical of the kind of argument a VP of Sales will have with a CIO or VP of IS. "The product will improve the bottom line Henry, we need to get it in ASAP." OK, I'm listening.

How much will it cost? Can I get it done by 10/31/99? What kind of human resources will it take? EXACTLY how much will this save us or increase revenues?

ALL I AM SAYING is that 1999 is the toughest year in IT history to use a vague "the product will improve our customer retention and relationships". I'm just as inclined to look you in the eye and respond "I thought that's what we have sales reps for." Not trying to be coy, but 1999 is a VERY tough sell year for a $1M plus app sell inside the organization.

This isn't beer bet territory, but there is a wine deal going on here you might be interested in. Check out BERW while you're at it. We are doing better than TokyoMex on that one.
