You guys want to get all libertarian on this, you got to explain how the great moral crusade fits. JLA has quoted Rand, of course, but Rand had a rather messy personal life and views on religion our RR friends would find. . . interesting. OK by me, and I can certainly handle the Goldwater style libertarian Republicans better than the Starr / Bork / Lott / Helms moral crusaders.

I can't quote it anymore, but the Sunday NYT had a big article about Newt coming under fire from the right within the party. Newt did appear to have libertarian leanings at times. It seems only Ronald Reagan had the standing to appear sympathetic to the moralists without backing them up legislatively.
