Don't forget the volume. If it is closing near its high for the day on higher than normal volume I would estimate 70-75% of the time the opening will be higher the next day. This is especially true if the stock gapped up in the morning. Of course news coming out after close and overnight markets can effect stocks in any direction.

A good example to watch today is NTL. Gapped up $3 on earnings news today on very high volume. It is up $5 at 2:45 down $2 from its high for the day. If there is lots of buying in the next 15 minutes it would be a very good bet that it gaps open tomorrow morning.

Of course holding overnight would break the daytraders code :)

Best Regards
