ttf, You are operating under the assumption that the VP of Sales in these organizations has no power and will ultimately have to defer to IT. As you already know, I don't agree with this.

This is the person who's got responsibiility for the top line. So if he (or she as the case may be) can convince the CEO that this project will increase the top line by making the organization more competitive, increas the win ratio, provide more accurate forecasting, better customer retention, etc.,etc.I am still hard pressed to believe the answer will be....too bad no resources available for this.

You aren't talking about small companies which can only handle one or two projects at a time here either. If they have to divert resources or even add additional resources I'm sure they will if they are convinced of the need.

You're forgetting about the Arthur Andersen's and other partners who can provide these resources. So since your issue seems to primarily center around IT's budget and resources I've sold the problem completely. Hire external resources and let the VP of Sales use his budget.

Plus....and here's a major point. It's not like sebl already has sold to 80% of the market as the ERP's vendors have. There are still tons of companies to yet be sold. And it isn't like they need to sell them all next year to hit their numbers. Another point, from the cc. Seems Tom believes they are underinvested in Europe so I would expect to see more resources dedicated to that market.

ok....your turn..
