OT - BTW, the pictures were still to big , I assume. Can't figure out what the heck I did wrong.

Pictures too big? Reduce your resolution. It's the scan resolution that determines the (on screen) picture size.

I saw the answer with the url for scanning tips. This thread is a fount of information. I love it@!
I wonder if that lowcost scanner advertised is any good.
Hopefully when you "lower the resolution" (whatever that entails) the pictures will be perfect. Looking forward to it, so I can post them here somehow.
