matt-- good point. look at it this way. i am a purchasing manager at BEL. i want high speed modems. i can buy either WSTL CAP or ALA DMT modems for the same price. now, i can set the ALA modems to run slow, but i cant amp up the WSTL modems. i relaize that the network will eventually be able to bear full rate DMT. which do i go with? now, look at it from ALA and WSTLs POV. ALA can drag down the price because they get to make up the loss on DLC systems. WSTL doesnt have that luxury. so, while ALA sells modems as a loss leader, WSTL bleeds to death. now do you get the picture? good luck to all, trey

Matt, I hear what you are saying, but... the RBOC's have made their decision on the line code, it's DMT. BEL will be the last Telco to make the switch. If the RBOC's want a mass deployable solution across chip/DSLAM/ATU-R it's going to be DMT. We have multiple chip suppliers for DMT ALA/ADI/TI/PAIRGAIN vs a single source of CAP.... until later.

Glory Days Unless there are other germane technical issues of why DMT has major advantages over CAP [reliability, provisioning, cross talk, market hype etc] then I don't see the big advantage of DMT vs something in production and available now.
