Often, but not always, analysts meet with companies before earnings. Although companies can't say exactly what their earning, they can say how business is going, what their expenses (in general) are, etc. etc. (not to mention expressions and mannerisms that an analyst can pick up on). Analysts almost always would hold off on recommendations (or changes thereof) until after earnings have been reported and they have a better idea about how well the company is doing. The fact that they didn't leads me to believe that they have knowledge that we don't. I should temper this statement by saying that sometimes early recommendation changes are made directly prior to earnings, and analysts are completely wrong! -- this has happened to MRVC before. Cheers
