I think that you have hit on the way that MSFT is a threat to ORCL.
It isn't that SQL Server as such is a threat, but that MSFT can
afford to lose an arbitrarily large amount of money on the product
to make it appear credible, including paying or even forcing
companies to use it, and this process could eventually damage ORCL's
ability to invest in their products, etc. In other words, it isn't
that MSFT makes a better product or even an almost as good one and
competes on price that is the threat, although that's what they
want to have everyone believe. I think that on anything like a
legal playing field ORCL should be able to win in this sector as
long as they keep their eye on the ball...
