Tim, genuine question. What is the attraction to DELL?

I've never been interested in it, personally. I share the mystification. It's always seemed heinously overpriced to me whenever I look at - of course it usually goes and doubles in price again, leaving me feeling foolish. But aside from the stock's tremendous performance, what's the fundamental attraction here? It's not a MSFT, a CSCO, an AOL. It's a leading box-maker, based solely on its marketing and distribution strengths. But these are hardly proprietary and can certainly be subject to competitor inroads. It's P/E doesn't seem justifiable based on its growth, and its growth doesn't seem sustainable.

I tend not to short, just because I've been a pretty good bottom feeder, but not particularly good at sensing tops. But when everyone and his/her grandmother are touting a stock that's looking pricey, it certainly seems like the best time to consider it.

Primarily an academic question, but I'd appreciate any DELL longs sharing their thoughts.
