Don't be fooled by Saylor and his goofy pitch.

MSTR's products aren't some generic silver bullet that will simplify and magically provide data access, even though he might want you to believe that.

It is hardly that simple.

Harry - MSTR is to be avoided at all costs, unless you are short. There may be some bounce and Trader Dave can tell you his feeling on that, but it will only serve as an opportunity to short it to death again.

If you want more specific detail send me a PM.

Your points indeed merit attention. I think the threat from the ERP and database vendors are not insignificant. SAP has a compelling story to the CEOs (their Business Information Warehouse). Integrated data and metadata, zero cleansing/transformation, best-practices, and ready-to-go measures/reports as it relates to decision support components are value-add to Fortune companies that have invested upwards of $50 million toward an ERP implementation.

The databases will get smart eventually. Companies are attempting to leverage JAVA. It is likely that some of the OLAP-type functionality will move to the database tier itself. It will be interesting to see how many companies survive this convergence paradigm.
