Re: Portability and smart cards It appears to me that if you listen to the conference call, read the available web-site material, and review things that have been said before, it is clear that the system concept being implemented by the group of companies announcing yesterday includes the ability to handle: - Multiple users at one machine - Multiple machines for one user - Portable/moveable use of e-c and content-control features at other people's machines that have readers as well as at "utility" or "library" machines. - Vast enhancement of and full compatibility with smart card features. The concept is the implementation of a rich group of capabilities around a flexible, secure control platform that can be used in a wide variety of applications. The variety will be as wide as the companies that choose to implement it in their products are capable of imagining. It is compatible with Windows CE and thus can be effective in such diverse items as home appliances, machine tools, telephones, copy machines, cars, etc. etc. etc. The evolution of WAVE from the original WAVEMETER concept to the now-developing concept of which Embassy's known functions are just the tip of the iceberg, has the promise of being something very revolutionary. Every time one thinks about it, some new potential application pops into one's mind. I would suspect that it is this that keeps the likes of a George Gilder on the Board and an active participant, even though the company is a BB stock. It will, however, take demonstration through implementation to get the world's attention. Yesterday was a clear giant step toward doing it, but there is a long way to go. And I think many now see even more clearly that these guys have the capability of doing it. Steve
