a fact I learned from IBDtoday concerning LSI.The chips that
lsi manufactures for the sony play station are not designed by them.
A company called MIPS drafts blueprints of the circuitry and writes
instructions that tell the electronic equipment what to do. They recieve a licensing fee or royalty based on the number of chips
sold. They are working on microprocessors for set top boxes, cable modems and digital subscriber lines. It appears lsi will share profits
with MIPS for processors in these future growth areas. I was under
the impression LSI designed these chips
